What is Data Science?
Data science is an interdisciplinary field that uses scientific methods, processes, algorithms and systems to extract knowledge and insights from structured and unstructured data. Data science is related to data mining, deep learning and big data. It transforms accumulated raw data so that it can be easily interpreted and acted upon.

Each of these initial programs has been designed for individuals with limited to no Data Science background. These programs will provide a structured approach to developing a critical understanding of Data Science Skills and Applications for healthcare, technology, engineering, financial services, and manufacturing professionals or corporate sponsors who want robust analytics to improve their team’s decision-making capabilities.
This program teaches best-practice professional techniques for effectively communicating data analysis. Participants will
develop intermediate skills and knowledge of tools used for optimizing data visualization and storytelling.
DATA SCIENCE LITERATE
This program series is designed for individuals with limited to no experience in Data Science. Participants will develop a basic understanding of data science terminology and tools that can be applied to their positions, industry, or ambitions.
PYTHON BASICS FOR ANALYTICS
Designed for existing SAS and power Excel users who frequently leverage analytic tools and want to transition to a Python-based delivery, this program will develop basic Python skills to transition and augment existing analytic skill sets.
PREDICTIVE MODELING & ANALYTICS
This course will take a problem-based learning approach to the foundational concepts of data science. Program participants will learn the process of developing and completing a data science project by determining which tools to use to solve analytic problems.

Frequently Asked Questions
We deliver our online programs through a digital platform called Intrepid, which allows participants to navigate and complete learning modules for each program at their own pace. To provide a comprehensive blended learning experience, the platform also allows us to host live interactive sessions in which participants can engage with peers and faculty to further explore and reinforce course content. Within the Intrepid platform, users can also track course progress, access course materials, submit assignments, and access a variety of other resources that help provide an optimal, contextualized learning experience. Participants will receive more information on how to access and navigate the Intrepid platform upon program registration.
At this time, all sessions are in English only, but we hope to add other languages in the future.
No, the programs are 100% online. You can also access program sessions via smartphone.
90% of the program is self-directed (i.e. complete at your own pace), but there will be 1 – 2 live, virtual meetings with the program faculty. There will also be office hours during which faculty will be available to discuss your questions, which will be announced and scheduled in advance. For the summer 2020 pre-release, there will also be a live, virtual feedback session.
Yes, most of the program is self-paced. For the summer 2020 pre-release, we will be adding sections based on feedback, so there may be a delay in their availability.
Yes, your Online Program account will remain active for 90 days after the program is complete. For the summer 2020 pre-release cohort, you will be able to access your materials until October 1, 2020.

Fill out the ‘Learn More’ form on any of the program pages. You will receive an email with more information on the registration process, including a link to the registration page. Select the course(s) in which you would like to enroll and pay the fee by credit card, and you will receive access to the course within 24-48 hours.
Yes, anyone can pay for participants in the course, as long as you can provide their email address.
For the summer 2020 pre-release cohort, please register and pay course fees by June 15th.
Registrants should receive a confirmation and information on how to access their course(s) within 24 – 48 hours after completing registration and submitting payment.
You will be provided a link by email that will take you to the NC State Executive Education Online Programs course platform.
There are no technical requirements beyond having access to a typical laptop or smartphone with standard internet access.
The NC State Executive Education courses are non-credit and cannot be used for degree credit at this time. You will receive a verifiable digital badge to confirm completion of the program and include on your LinkedIn profile and other social media sites.

Costs, Financial Assistance and Payment Options
You are expected to have a laptop or smartphone to access course materials. No additional materials are needed at this time. If any program does require specialized materials or software in the future, it will be indicated in the course description.
For the summer 2020 pre-release cohort, all participants will receive 50% off the price listed online. In the future, there will be discounts for group registrations and participants who have completed previous programs.
The course fees are due at the time of registration, and should be paid by credit card.

Yes, you will be able to use your credit card to pay for the program on the registration website.
For the summer 2020 pre-release cohort (invite-only), refunds will be provided as follows: 100% refund if requested before June 22, 90% refund if requested between June 22 – 23, 50% refund if requested between June 24 – 28, 25% refund if requested between June 29 – July 8. No refunds will be provided on or after July 9.
